Amritsar Water Supply and Sewerage Project
India
Period: 2006
Client/Finance: Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC)
The objective of the JBIC funded SAPROF Study was to conduct a quantitative analysis of the existing situation and the current Water Supply and Sewerage Project proposals (by others) so as to confirm their necessity, appropriateness and sustainability.
In fulfilling this objective the Study team supported and assisted the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board in conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), focused primarily on the impact of further groundwater abstraction.
The output from the Study included endorsement of existing proposals and proposed additional works of water supply, sewerage and sewage treatment, and solid waste management, with a total Project cost of about Rs4 billion. Recommendations included a review of the existing proposals for the Project implementation, operation and maintenance framework and organisation suitable for sustainable development.
