King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) Desalination Plant
Saudi Arabia
Period: 2005-2006
Client/Finance: International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group)
The main objective of the project was to secure a new potable water supply for the King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) at Jeddah.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank signed a mandate with the CAA of Saudi Arabia, to assist in the rehabilitation or replacement of the desalination plant that supplies water to the KAIA, through a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) or a similar Private Sector Participation (PSP) structure.
IFC appointed Nippon Koei UK (NKUK) as the Technical Consultant to assist them with all engineering and environmental aspects of technical reviews.
NKUK reviewed the current and future requirements of water supply of the KAIA, prepared the investment programme and bid documentation necessary to meet these requirements and recommended service performance standards to be included in the project agreements. The firm also undertook the technical and financial evaluation of tenders.
