Kingston Metropolitan Area Water Supply and Rehabilitation Project

Jamaica

Client/Finance: Government/Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC)

In order to improve the necessary service levels and to meet the increasing water demand of a developing and expanding Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA), it was necessary to rehabilitate the existing water supply facilities and restore them to design levels, reduce UFW, as well as develop additional water sources.

The consulting services provided National Water Commission (NWC) with the best quality engineering and technical advisory services as listed below, to allow for the successful implementation of the Project.

1. Engineering Services

  • Conduction of environmental impact assessment
  • Preparation of detailed design and tender documents
  • Procurement and installation of bulk flow meters
  • Pre-construction services in the form of assistance to NWC in implementation tender and contract procedures
  • Resident engineering and construction administration

2. Advisory Services

Technical support for Institutional and Financial Strengthening in the areas of:

  • Corporate planning
  • UFW reduction and control
  • Customer relations, billing and collections
  • Operation and maintenance
  • Asset Management

3. Technology transfer through the project implementation.
