Following the transfer of major shareholding in HCB from the Portuguese to the Mozambiquan Government, NKUK has been working with Manitoba Hydro International (MHI) to provide HCB with monitoring and technical support services, as required by the financiers of the transfer.
The first task for NKUK has been to establish an Environmental Management System (EMS) for HCB.
This has been designed to comply with ISO 14001, the international EMS standard. Further work is underway to design and implement environmental management procedures for individual elements of HCB activities. (Ultimately, the EMS will be certified to ISO 14001 by environmental auditors.) In addition, work is proceeding to reduce the adverse environmental impacts of HCB's activities.
