Rail Initial Environmental Examination
Libya
Period: 2009
Client/Finance: ECOU and GI Consult (German)
NK worked on an IEE for ECOU and GI Consult (German), and ultimately for Libyan Railroads. This was for the brand new Libyan railway network on which Chinese contractors recently started construction. The IEE covered approximately 680km of rail line running between Sirt and Ras Ajdir on the Tunisian border.
The project involved a field survey and desk based assessment of relevant environmental and social aspects, a review of Contractor's method statements, assessment of potential environmental impacts, and creation of an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) to reduce or eliminate potential adverse impacts.
