Water and wastewater
The importance of water supply and sanitation issues in national policies and poverty reduction strategies cannot be overemphasised. Halving sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015 is one of the quantified and time-bound targets defined for the Millennium Development Goals (Target 10 of Goal 7).
The Water and Wastewater Division of NKUK provides consulting services to major international clients in the water supply and sanitation sectors. Whilst the Division's primary focus is on planning, engineering, and construction management it has strong institutional and economics capability and works closely with government agencies in developing their infrastructure and providing improved living standards.
Being part of the worldwide Nippon Koei Group, the Division works closely with the other group divisions and provides specialist services both to and on behalf of the Group. The capability and experience of the Division extends across the full water cycle from water source development through to wastewater treatment and final disposal.
Specific areas of expertise include:
- surface and groundwater hydrology
- dam and river engineering
- water treatment
- water transmission and distribution
- sewage collection
- wastewater treatment
- treated effluent disposal and reuse
- urban drainage
- tunnelling
- low-cost sanitation
