Who we are
Formed in September 2000, NKUK is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Koei Co Ltd., the first independent consulting engineering company to be founded in Japan.
Incorporated in Japan and registered as a Branch Office in the United Kingdom, NKUK has its operating headquarters in Reading, Berkshire, and focuses on water and wastewater, environment and transportation projects throughout the world.
Characterized by a warm and friendly atmosphere, NKUK’s office is the hub of a global business that works hand in hand with our head office in Kojimachi, Tokyo together with other offices around the globe.
Although working as an integral part of the Nippon Koei Group, NKUK maintains an independent position in the identification, procurement and execution of projects. In addition NKUK has the exciting brief to develop new markets and clients on behalf of Nippon Koei.
Our role as a “catalyst for change” has led to business development roles in Qatar, Philippines, Azerbaijan, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Libya, India, to mention a few.
Approximately 25 per cent of our business is conducted in association with Tokyo Office on projects funded by the Japanese Government. As a result, the geographic distribution of our work portfolio is more varied than that of a typical British consultant and NKUK staff have been engaged on projects in locations as diverse as Nepal, Rwanda, Uruguay, Indonesia, Tunisia, Viet Nam, and El Salvador.
NKUK is managed and staffed by British and Japanese engineers, economists and environmental scientists. It would take time to meet them all but we have included an outline of some of the team you might meet in Reading on a typical Monday morning in October.
